From an Idea on Paper to a Motion Picture. Drift – The Movie

With the idea wheels in motion, Chalet Nantegue secured for the following summer, the website in the process of being designed and all social media accounts set up, it was time to try and entice some guests.

As a brand new company and with a number of other similar businesses in the area, we had to make ourselves stand out. We decided to create a video encapsulating how we envisaged a biking holiday with DRIFT to be.  It seemed the most engaging way to get the message across and being regulars at sharing biking videos ourselves, something that we could relate to.

By joining forces of photographer, Sam Thornton, as well as Videographer, Daniel O’Shea, we were able to get some great stills as well as the video which were a real asset in our marketing. With Sam also planning to join us as the in-house photographer is was a great chance for him to show off his skills and promote the kind of pictures all guests would be able to take away with them after staying with DRIFT.

Dan was only able to come out to Morzine for 3 days so we had our fingers crossed for good weather. On the first half of day one we were blessed with sunshine but the riders were clouded with bad luck. Ginge hit a tree with his hand and so was unable to ride any further, then shortly afterwards Hugo knocked his rear derailleur off on the Canyon gap in Les Gets. One rider and one bike down the shoot was fast becoming a challenge.

Day Two, our fingers obviously weren’t crossed hard enough. We woke up to grey and overcast skies and with the threat of thunderstorms we were forced to drive round rather than bike to Chatel to avoid lift closures due to lightning. With two new riders in the mix, Ryan Steele and Craig Thornton, we had the challenge of trying to make two completely different people look the same as the previous filming, we’ll leave it up to you to decide how we did with that….

And so the three days finally came to an end, Dan went home with an ‘eclectic’ mix of footage. We had no idea if any of it would be good enough but low and behold he worked his magic and about a month later the video was there sitting in our inbox.

We believe it really is a brilliant ‘day in the life’ video of what you can expect from a biking holiday with DRIFT.

Dan is currently in the process of editing our new video for 2015 so watch this space, new video coming soon….
